Last month Activtelecom took M-Sport managing director, Malcolm Wilson, and his rally car racer son, Matthew Wilson, along to a Burns Night event at the BALTIC that was hosted by the Entrepreneurs’ Forum. As well as owning M-Sport, one of the world’s leading private teams, Malcolm, who won two British National titles on the late 1970s and went on to win the British National Crown in 1994, is the director of the BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team. His son, Matthew, took part in his first rally in 2003 when he was co-driver for his father. It didn’t take long for him to take part in his first world rally in 2004, where he was the only driver to achieve a 100% reliability record.
The Entrepreneurs’ Forum aims to help and inspire entrepreneurs, and the Burns Night certainly inspired. Chief executive of Virgin Racing, Graeme Lowdon, introduced Sir Jackie Stewart, OBE, who spoke to the Entrepreneurs’ Forum about his struggles and achievements, all of which have helped him to succeed in his chosen profession. His story is certainly inspiring: tackling dyslexia and overcoming bullying at a young age to become a formula one champion, three times. He then went on to become one of the top five driving champions of all time. Sir Jackie reminded the attendees to ‘never get angry; never get too excited’ because ‘it is easy to get carried away with a little bit of success and that is the fastest way to bring you down’. He told the group that developing experience and surrounding yourself with the right people can help you to become successful: from experience and knowledge you can ‘mature and make some big decisions’.
The night was an inspirational and enjoyable night for everyone and thanks to all of our guests for attending.
